Q&A

Gail from Illinois USA, is one of Johnathon's most loyal fans and she recently had the opportunity to ask him some questions.  And once again, without hesitation, Johnathon has very generously supplied the answers below.
(Thank you once again Johnathon.  You're a truely nice guy... - Wanda, Moderator 20aug07)

1.  I am a firm believer in "stars" on TV and in movies being "people."  Has there ever been a situation where a fan has made you feel uncomfortable?
Gail...I once had a fan call me after I purchased merchandise at the store they worked at.

 2.  Time on movie sets---is it kind of like 24/7?
We sometimes work 14 hour days or longer...I've had a couple 18 hour days...

 3.  Favorite Foods?  (I know--I'm a girl---but I like food!!)
I love Sushi...

 4.  What do you enjoy doing for fun?  What are some of your hobbies?
I love baseball...

 5.  When you have had a conversation with someone---what are you hoping that person can take away with them when they're done talking to you?
I want people to feel better about themselves, so I try and be nice

 6.  I've noticed the favorite movies you normally enjoy watching have a very deep subject matter to them.  What comedic movies do you like?
I like Adam Sandler movies, he cracks me up...Loved the movie Super Bad..

 7.  How do you know when to do a certain body of work?  Does the script "speak to you?"
I’ve always felt roles chose me, as opposed to me choosing them.

 8.  I am a big believer in family.  What are some values, etc. that your mother and father, also grandparents, taught you that apply to today?
Roy London taught me to work through the events of my life through my acting. I've been blessed that way...  I miss my family...pursuing this job has made me miss my family to a gut wrenching level.  But I'm soon moving back home.

 9.  If you could tell your fans anything, what would you like to tell us?
Thank you...

10.  When you've had a "BIG DAY" at work---how do you "turn that off" when you get home?
I work at home and vice versa...

11.  I've noticed you've mentioned alot in interviews that (hands down) your favorite movie you've been involved with is That Thing You Do.  Has your opinion changed since you started doing more screenwriting, directing, producing, etc.?
That Thing You Do is still my favorite

12.  I was raised and I am Catholic.  I've noticed that when I'm not "down with the big guy" God works in mysterious ways.  Also, I've realized God gives "things" to people to deal with because he knows we can handle it--(one of my friends told me it's because God can trust us--unfortunately, to me, it doesn't feel that way at the time.)  What can you tell me about how you feel about our faith so I don't get discouraged when I see people not being nice to one another; or, when people get toooo judgmental of one another?
I simply would be grateful for all that I've been given.
And we are human beings, we just need to know that there are things out there that are greater then us.

 13.  What would be something you would love to do if you could spare no expense?
If I could do anything I wanted...I'd buy a mansion in Maryland and have my sister and parents live there

 Thank you very much
JS

Johnathon has once again shown his generousity and support of this web site by answering some awesome questions from one of his biggest fans "Brutalfan" -
(Thank you Johnathon - Wanda, Moderator 19Nov06)

You mentioned during one of your interviews, that your spirituality changed before and during the filming of 'Judas'. How has this newfound spirituality affected your life since the filming and are you feeling the same way?
No, things change. I'm reinventing my connection to a greater power. Things have been hard on the inside this year so unfortunately I think my God has carried me through it all and his arms are getting tired. It's time for me to wake up again to the miracles around me. I have always struggled with my faith. When I did Judas I spent time in the desert and broke bread with a greater power everyday. I feel a need to get that power back in my life.

Have you ever thought about doing any other films similar to 'That Thing You Do' with a musical theme? Do you ever practice playing the guitar or singing for fun since the film aired in 1996?
I have my guitars from That Thing You Do in my living room but I just don’t have the time to pick them up.  I wish I had the skills.

If you had to choose, what would be your favorite role to portray and why? (Comedic, Serious, Bad Boy, Romantic... etc.)
I have never felt that I choose the role that I was going to play, they somehow choose me. Opening up to the creative world I have always been challenged with things that came screaming to me. I was trained to always go do the thing or project that scared me the most. I like a challenge.

I realize that you have probably learned so much from everyone that you have worked with. Who would you say has been your most influential co-star?
Tom Hanks has always been the actor that raised the bar the highest. By far.  I loved Kenneth Branaugh - shoot everyone has given me so much but Tom Hanks by far is the greatest influence. That Thing You Do was the greatest experience I’ve had with movies. It stemmed from the greatness of Tom Hanks.

I hope you never do, but besides Screenwriting, have you ever considered what you might want to do if you ever decided to stop acting?
If I stopped acting it would be to save something. But I think I’ll be an actor till I die.

Do you have a favorite movie, or even TV show, old or new, that you enjoy watching on a rainy night at home?
I have always loved Frank Darabount's SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and THE GREEN MILE...both Stephen King novels.

I hope this coming year to get a part in one of Tom Hank's pieces and I hope to get a part in Frank Darabount/ Stephen King collaboration THE MIST.  Then I think I’ll take it easy and get even more focused on my personal goals.

All the best
Johnathon
